About Maine Strong Memorial Foundation
About Us
The Maine Strong Memorial Foundation was established in response to the mass shooting that took place in Lewiston, ME, on October 25, 2023. Two of the victims, Joe Walker and Ron Morin, were beloved members of the Lewiston/Auburn softball community.
What began as a small softball tournament to support the families of all 18 victims and survivors quickly evolved into a 25-team event, sponsored by Hammond Lumber Company. Given the rapid two-week turnaround, the Foundation partnered with the Lewiston-Auburn Metropolitan Chamber of Commerce to ensure all funds raised were properly managed and directly distributed to the families. Through the overwhelming support of our community, we raised an incredible $207,853.
Since that time, the Maine Strong Memorial Foundation has formalized its efforts and is now a certified 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization dedicated to helping families in need across the state of Maine. Our Board of Directors is proudly made up of community members who share a deep commitment to honoring those we lost and building a stronger, more resilient future for all.
Our Mission
The Maine Strong Memorial Foundation seeks to provide temporary financial relief to Maine families that are touched by unexpected tragedy. We aim to raise funds through annual events to provide donation matches.
Our Vision
To honor the legacy of those we’ve lost by providing unwavering support during life’s unexpected challenges, ensuring their spirit lives on through our dedication, continuing to exemplify our community’s Lewiston Strong motto.
